The NAO has recently installed a large number of laptop PCs for use by its auditors when working on client sites. The data on these machines is frequently of a sensitive nature and the requirement for a suitable security system was immediately recognised. Daemon was commissioned to research the security options. This work comprised the preparation of a study outlining a complete security strategy for the management of risk on laptop PCs. This strategy involved recommending which security products to use and how best to integrate them with the NAO's existing central Unix network. Following completion of the study, Daemon was employed to implement the security system, including the setup of a central data repository through which the stock of pooled laptop PCs is managed.
